“I give up!“

When Christian blues singer/songwriter Debbie Walton took that attitude and relinquished control of her life and ministry to the Lord, things changed.

Eighteen months ago, the Ohio native said God sent her a clear signal that she was to give up her church home and the music program she had come to love dearly. Walton was reluctant to leave her spiritual family, but obeyed the Lord’s wishes.

She admits it was one of the most difficult challenges she has faced. Through the fire, Debbie learned a life-changing lesson that set her on the path to the dream she has carried in her heart since childhood.

“We’re such a society of control freaks,” said Walton, a featured artist on Whitedove Radio. “I’ve been guilty of that but I have been so much happier since I’ve learned that I’m not in control of anything."

“My job is to stay out of His way and follow His lead. I’ve always wanted to sing for God, but if someone told me a year ago that I’d have my own CD and a charted song on Whitedove Radio, I would have said, "no way!”
Walton, who also is a nurse, believes her willingness to obey God’s instructions is what created the opportunity for her new music ministry.

A couple months after leaving her former church, Debbie and her husband Bob began attending Genoa Baptist Church in Westerville, Ohio.

The couple were introduced to the church’s pastor, Frank Carl, and its music minister, Paul Caldwell. Carl and Caldwell invited Walton to sing at a service and became instant fans of her gritty voice and passionate music.

They encouraged Debbie to pursue a career in music ministry, and she took their advice.

It wasn’t long before the forty-something mother of two was in the studio recording her first CD, “No Doubt.” The 14-song project, which was released in November 2003, showcases several musical genres, from blues to jazz to gospel to rock. Caldwell says Walton is one of the few artists
who can effectively deliver a variety of musical styles.

“I am amazed at the incredible reach of Debbie’s feel for so many styles of music,” said Caldwell. “It is rare, indeed, when an artists exhibits this ability to communicate a song with such dramatic interpretation and vocal skill.”
On “No Doubt,” Walton offers her listeners everything from traditional hymns like “Amazing Grace” to bluesy numbers such as “Nobody’s Fault But Mine” and “Wade In The Water.” Songs like “Deep,” “Joy In The Holy Ghost” and “Revive Us Again” inspire fans to worship the Lord with hand clapping and shouts of praise.

Mixed in with this inspired collection is the epic ballad “Lord You’re Holy,” which charted in the No. 3 position on Whitedove Radio the week of Feb. 15. Walton also includes the Bill and Gloria Gaither tune, “I’ve Just Seen Jesus,” and Wayne Watson’s gutsy blues/rock piece, “If I Were You.”
“It’s an interesting blend of music and I didn’t want to get locked into just one style,” said Walton, who performed at Carnegie Hall in 2001 with the Columbus Symphony Orchestra Chorus. “I tried to do a wide variety so there’d be something that everyone could enjoy.”

Since releasing “No Doubt,” Walton says she is thrilled to be sharing her music at churches, Christian events and prisons. She is especially excited to know her songs are reaching a worldwide audience on Whitedove Radio.
“Since making the CD, everything has fallen into place,” said Walton. “Seeing it all unfold has given me such a sense of faith and trust like never before.”

Handing over the reins to the One who has all the answers has been the best move Debbie ever made. She will continue on the path God laid out for her and says there’s no doubt He will go before her every step of the way.
“My prayer is that I am able to convey what the Lord has done for me in the past year and a half,” said Walton.

“The need to make it by the world’s standards is not my driving factor.  The Lord gave me this gift and I will use it for His glory. I’m just waiting for the next assignment.”

A Review from Paul Caldwell...

No Doubt is Debbie Walton's new CD project. From the opening traditional spiritual/blues offering of Nobody's Fault But Mine, to the closing total worship experience of I've just seen Jesus, this unique, exciting album will give you many hours of inspiration and entertainment. I have just finished listening to it again, and I am amazed at the incredible reach of Debbie's feel for so many different styles of music. It is rare indeed, when an artist exhibits this ability to communicate a song with such dramatic interpretation and vocal skill.

Blues....Gospel.....Folk....Traditional....Jazz....Soul....all of these styles are masterfully demonstrated in this extraordinary musical production. But in reality, when you get to know Debbie, and pick up on her heartbeat, you will understand why and how she uses these God Gifts to reach out....to touch...and to share the love of God. No doubt, it is this passion that makes this album so alive!

No Doubt, removes any doubt, that this spiritual, professional presentation will become an awesome source of inspiration and blessing to everyone who hears it. - Paul Caldwell
